Topic: Carburetor spacers with water connections

I have seen carb spacers both 2 and 4 barrel that have a nipples on each end to run a heater hose through them.

I know they were not used on Mustangs. I know they were factory on Sunbeam Tigers.

What other applications used them and why not on the Mustang?

Are you sure your not getting confused with the P.C.V system, as I never seen any water lines going through a carburetor.

Only on the I6 carb spacer plates. Only Mustang application I know of. Marty

The water line goes through the spacer plate under the carb, not through the carb itself. Sorry I wasn't clear.

I imagine that it helped prevent carb icing and possibly fuel boiling by keeping the carb plate at 180-190 degrees, but that is just a guess on my part.

I've seen a 2V V8 spacer with the water ports, but never bothered to check what the applications were.  Were not used on a Mustang for whatever reason.

One of my neighbors has a 64 Galaxy 500 with a 352CID 4V and it has a carburetor spacer with the in and out water ports. The back hose was connected to the heater, the front hose was connected to the manifold. There was an electric water heater tank on the other hose. The car has an assembly plant or "P" (Saint Paul ?) and a DSO of Washington state where it's sort of cold at times. I would think that the hook-up would preheat the carburetor and maintain a constant temperature in cold weather.

I have one of these flow through, one barrel, carb spacers.  Cast into the under side; HEFFIELD, FoMoCo in the oval, one of those, month circle things w/ 4 dots and a 65.  ID casting C3DE 9A589F.  Brian

i think that might be 'sheffield'. that is on several of cast engine parts iirc.

1969 GT390 Cars(or PI 390 to some) used the Spacer with the Heater Hoses running through it. 67-68 390 used a Bakelite Spacer. One of the 351 4V motors also used it. I can't remember off the top of my head if it was 69 351W or 70 351C.
