68 SJ head lights
« on: November 10, 2011, 09:29:26 AM »
What was the most used head light vendor in the San Jose plant? I have 1 real nice TS lamp and do not want to spend a lot for another if it is not correct. I have heard that Westinghouse was a major vendor. Has anyone seen the new Scott Drake embossed reproduction? I heard it was at SEMA and was a halogen lamp and had different fluting. If they are good the price is right, Brant has them for 19.95. Thoughts?

Marty I think we will have to make compromises on how correct we will have to accept. The details on the Westinghouse LOOKING bulb are different slightly from the genuine versions from what I have been told . I don't think they have a Westinghouse trademark logo. Maybe Westing horse or similar  ;D  . Unfortunately I think it is unlikely for a 100% faithful  reproduction in this instance. The molded glass is cool but It was not a dominant version of bulb from what I have found on cars and in junk yards over the years which were the TS or GE etched. They will most likely be on pare or a little better then the deficiencies found on the Wagner ones that had the etched FOMOCO logo IMHO. Which is better then nothing. Bob

Marty,
My MARCH '68 SJ fastback had the TS bulbs in it.  I still have the originals, but the silvering isn't good enough so I bought another set which is in the car now.  If you decide to go with repro bulbs I'd be interested in your TS for my Cobra Jet.

Two of my cars had the TS bulbs (centered, etched logo), including the low-miles gold one that I sold.
