'69 1/4 window guide attaching floor nut
« on: November 11, 2011, 11:59:47 AM »
Okay, so I really tried to get the gist of this topic in the subject line!

My '69 San Jose vert has a rectangular hole in the rocker into which a clip-style (?) nut is placed -- and the nut is missing.  This is the single attaching point for the bottom of the window guide.  (I would guess that both verts and coupes had the same set up.)

My supposition is that the nut must be something similar to the fender to rocker nut (square nut with 'wings').

I've tried jerry-rigging something to hold the guide in place but nothing works.

Anybody familiar with this nut? Can tell me from where it can be purchased?  I seriously doubt it's reproduced, so maybe someone like JD Larson might have one.

Have you tried using a fender to rocker clip? Even if it does not fit perfectly tight you could tack weld it in place. Another idea is find a place in your area that has some salvage cars and rob one off of one of them.

First, I STRONGLY suggest that you get a set of the Jim Osborn produced Mustang Assembly Manuals for your car's year. They are not without faults, but it is better than "Charmin".
I believe the nut clip you are refering to is p/n 374251-S2, a 1/4-20 nutclip. It is common to 69 to 73 Mustangs (possibly other Fords as well) used in that spot, 2 ea in 69-70 HTs and CVs, and 4 ea in 71 to 73 (assumed 73). It is shown on page 205 of AMK's Ford Fasteners, another item to add to Santa's list.

Yes, Jim, my Osborn manual does show that 374251-S2 Nut Retainer Assy but my question was whether or not it is reproduced and if so, where can it be purchased.  For the suggestion of "AMK," I thank you.

Page 56 of the 2010 AMK catalog, 2 ea for $4.00. AMK has a $30 minimum order.
From you initial question, I assumed you did not have or were not aware of the Osborn manuals. In my previous life, I was a production control/inventory control manager in the Hi-Tech industry and used part numbers constantly. It's the only way to safely identify parts.
