Clip-On Seat belt retractors
« on: December 14, 2011, 10:32:16 AM »
Does anyone have a picture of how these should look after installation with my belts shown?
I'm afraid my belt tips are gonna get slammed in the door.

The clip-on belt retractor doesn't last very long so I got some regular retractors. I had a couple on my 66 hardtop. If you note the picture of the clip-on types, the belts come thru the seat, not from the side like a Mustang belts are installed. With the side mounted retractor, the belt ends sometimes get stuck in the door when you close it and the retractor housing dents the "hockey stick" trim on the outer side of the seat rear. Still, the side-mounted are better. The long strap covers seem to work well but aren't original. When you get down to the bottom line, almost anything is better than no device. (I remember back in the 1960's when we would see a belt hanging out a car door, we would cut it off. We were "nasty" back then.)

Can you give me a little info on your background, so I know who I am speaking with.

Thanks

I have a pair of these, FoMoCo, on my 65 W/pony int.  The belt retractor is on the door side of the seat.   When released belt tip does smack the lower door near the light.  Small paint chipping and not really noticeable.  Brian

I wouldn't use them, they're terrible for chipping up the paint on the door when releasing the belt buckle.  You can say you'll hold it and make sure it won't fling out, but there will be a time when that doesn't happen or someone else lets them loose without holding.  I brought my significant other to tears on occasion for not holding the belt on my old '65 fastback, not worth the hassle or heartburn caused over them.

Can the be put on backward so the steel tab folds to the inside?

With the long convertible sheaths on the outside, hardly any belt to wind up anyway.

Yessir!   You are right but I was afraid I'd slam the door on the tab.
