1964 1/2 concours correct radiator
« on: January 27, 2015, 10:25:45 AM »
I'm restoring the #1908 Dearborn convertible and think another member has the radiator I need but need to confirm before purchase.  My car is a 260 auto with factory air and has a Mar 18, 1964 build date.  I believe the radiator for sale is a Dec, 1963 Fairlane part marked as follows: C4DE 8005 K1 3MC.  Is this a concours correct radiator for my car?  Thanks!

I think you need a C4ZE stamped radiator. Here is my code for my 260 V8 with auto: DEP C4ZE 8005 B1 4AB. There are references that explain the codes. If I recall correctly from Mannel's book, the "Z" in C4ZE is for Mustang.

IMO, the Fairlane radiator will not fit as it has wider mounting points. The Fairlanes could have a higher capacity radiator and therefor the hole in the frame is wider.
The radiator you mention has a "D" in the part# indicating a Falcon - could fit?, but would not be correct as it should have the "Z" mentioned in post above. The date code also tell it is manufactured in December 1963

C4DE would break down to a 64 Falcon, the "D" is for Falcon, "O" would be for Fairlane,
this indicates the car that the part was originally designed for but could fit others.
I had a jan/feb 64 radiator that had C4DE with a Z stamped over the D, factory misstamp
so you may see that with a early 64 radiator but C4ZE is what you would want.
The 3MC date code is a little to early for your car, your car would have had a feb 64 or
mar 64 date most likely.

Ok now I an the guy who sold him that radiator. His question was if it would be Concours correct and not thoroughbred correct. Yes the date code might be a little older and yes it came out of a Falcon but by MCA rules it is concours correct for a 64.5 260 v8 auto trans car.
