68 Trunk Light Detail
« on: October 09, 2011, 02:41:37 PM »
I saw this detail on an unrestored late Metuchen car (8T01C220XXX).  It shows how the wiring for the trunk light was fastened to the deck lid.  I hope this helps someone.

Thanks for sharing.  First one I have seen with that style grommet use.  Is the light group mentioned on the marti report or original window sticker/invoice?

Charles,
It was a parts car in a local yard so it didn't have that paperwork.  Everything appeared to be a factory install including the "C8" number stamped on the light housing (yes I removed it).  I too thought the grommet and wiring holder was a neat find and worth documenting.  I can't say they all came this way, but it is one example I thought I would share.  I haven't checked the FAM yet, I guess I should do that.

BTW, the factory hole on the opposing side of the trunk did not have the grommet.  I am assumming the grommet was added to protect the wiring on this particular car.

Thanks for sharing. Can't recall seeing that before  but not allot of 68 Mustangs got factory trunk lights. Guess we could look over at the Cougar production to see if that would offer any additional info

Our 67 SJ GTA convertible has light group on the Marti report and is detailed the same way. Marty

I had two 68's at the same time, one had the courtesy light package, one didn't. The trunk light had the hole grommet and some clips elsewhere. I took it off when I sold it and thought of putting it on the car that didn't have it till I found out that the wiring didn't have the extra plug to plug the light in. I had thought that all the wiring harnesses would be the same, so i found out that I can't hook it up without modifying the wiring harness. So now it sits in a box.
