     Good Morning,

    I've been looking for a set of NOS back up lights for my early '67, San Jose built.  What I keep finding are lights that are cast "C7...." but with the paper tag which reads "C8...".  Is it as simple as just removing the tags or is there  a specific "proper" light for the '67? Would the cars have had these tags on the assembly line?

You've fallen victim to the NOS trap. When Ford set up its service part numbers, they tried to use parts or assemblies  that would be universal in application, eg, fit more than one year. If a part could be forward or backward compatible they used it. Ford was not concerned with authenticity for years, the part had to work. In your case the service part for 67 light is identified as a 68 part. If you want NOS qualiry (new), see if you can reuse the ID tags if that's what is used.

The 67 reverse lights were two individual wires with the engineering number silkscreened on the wires. Plus the grommet is different size. No paper tag.  The service or repro part is a  completely different looking part from assemblyline.Taking the tags off will not change the look of the service part .Bob

Factory p/ns are C7ZB-15500-B (RH) and C7ZB-15501-A (LH) for 1967, and C8ZB-15500-A (RH) and C8ZB-15501-A (LH) for 1968 per the Osborn assembly books. Ford Car Parts shows C7ZZ-15511-A (RH) and C7ZZ-15512-B (LH) as a replacement for both years (except for 68 RH after 4/8/68). There may be a difference somewhere like the grommet as Bob mentioned, but a 68 service part is a 67 so your 68 p/n seems a bit off.

I don't think the paper tags came into use on the service parts back up lights until the early 70's. Bob

Another option (if your original wiring was still good) would be to use the repo or rechromed back up light bodies and swap out the rest and in the article stored in this sites Library
