68 Steering Column - Color of Collaspible Section
« on: September 10, 2011, 09:47:42 PM »
Is the collapsible section of the steering column the you can see under the dash black or interior color?  Right now, mines about half and half.  New Jersey if that makes a difference.

Thanks,
Dave

The collapsible exterior part of the column is not painted and it is black.

Looks like the same color as my 68 coupe, that two-tone blue.  I do think there was some lt blue overspray on the black plastic bellow.

So, I see you have the DARK blue carpet.  I've posed this question about whether the dark blue or the medium blue is the correct carpet for that color scheme but no response.  How sure of this color are you?

I would use some lacquer thinner and a rag that should clean most of the blue off. Then some vinyl and rubber cleaner to shine it up. Marty

I used lacquer thinner and then followed up with Vinylex.  I have not taken a picture yet.

To answer the question on the carpet color, I am not sure.  I do not remember what it had in it in 1971 when dad bought the car.  He had the carpet replaced 22 years ago with the dark carpet.  I just did the same recently.  I think it looks OK with the dark color as it matches the door panels.

the plastic sleeve is not 'spose to have apint on it. I would have to look under mine to see how far down the column is painted interior color.
