Generator Rebuild
« on: September 25, 2011, 04:59:53 PM »
I have an original 64 1/2 generator for a/c.  It has the original stamp (faded) with correct a/c application marking of C4OF-10000-B, date of 4FA, and dual groove pulley (C2OF-B4). I want to have it rebuilt as it is in rough shape. Any suggestions on a good place to have this done? I've not found any "How To" articles for this, they all refer to alternators, and I'm not sure how to do this myself.  Thanks for any suggestions.

My suggestion would be to look up a local, known old-fashioned auto electric shop that will show interest in rebuilding and cleaning up/painting your generator correctly-I did the same thing with an original alternator I had for my car.

  • If it does not fit, you need a bigger hammer!

I bought a couble rebuilt on Ebay for less then $30 each (original ford cores). I then made a stamp (your lucky as you can see your info very well) and restamped them. I wire brushed and painted the fan/pulley and put it on one of them.

I have three original Ford generators, but all are in the same kind of shape. I found a generator on eBay for sale ($350) by a company called BNR parts that restore/rebuild alternators and starters. They said they could restore my generator for $200...seems a bit high. They restamp the generator, but their stamp says C4OF-10000-G (number for non a/c car) no matter what application the generator was meant for, so I'd have to find a way to make a stamp if I went that route.

Thanks for that info on the seller, he's definitely restored a few generators and his prices seem a lot more reasonable. I sent him an email about restoring my generator. I had seen his generators for sale previously on eBay, but I forgot all about him.

Thanks again,
Chris
