All of these parts are on a mid June 1968 Cougar GT-E that I am restoring. All GT-E's were built in Dearborn.

Working on the seat tracks today and came across something unusual. One seat track (nearest one in the photo) was painted a semi gloss black. It has a logo that appears to be an "M" with an "A" superimposed on it.

The other three have a unique rivet that has the letter "T" in the middle and the one nearest the camera (second one from front) also has a date code that appears to be 8  65. These all appear to have had a clear zinc coating originally, no sign of any black paint.

I am used to finding these painted semi gloss black, all of them in '68 that I can remember. Any ideas?

Figured that the Mustang shared the same seat tracks so moved the thread over here.

Will look through my pictures but don't recall as many possible issues and pictures of 68's in there as I don't recall any past discussion anywhere about the tracks mostly the hinge issue, recall and fix

I have not noted the different marks but have seen a mixture of black painted and phosphate and oil. Some times mixed on the same car. I have not seen any in clear zinc.

I will check my shelf and see what I may have,

I took the tracks off a seat I had in storage and whose seat tracks have come from many cars.
But it does illustrate the various designs and finishes all in one pic.

The far left is the typical P&O finish of non-SJ cars.
Center is the 68 style with built-in seat plates.
Right is the earlier style that still uses the separate seat plates.

The ones on the outsides look like 65-66 tracks.

I have not had one of those since the mid 1970's. These came off a 1968 seat for sure.

The ones on the outsides look like 65-66 tracks.

I was having a tough time trying to figure out where I should put this post. If it needs to be moved let me know.

That would be the 1968 version with the integral plates.
