Headlight Sealed Beam
« on: June 17, 2011, 09:27:38 PM »
Well..I was just removing front end components so I could detail and install my A/C condenser and dryer.

I don't guess it's anything real special, but one of my sealed beams has the FoMoCo script oval in the center.  I suppose it's Original or it was changed sometime in the late 60's.??

There is normally a date also stamped in ink on the backside of the headlight that will tell you when it was manufactured.  The date stamp can be erased with certain cleaning agents so tread carefully or it will be gone before you can see it.

I think I'm in the same boat as you. I've got an aftermarket A/C unit on that I think I'm going to take off. I've been dreading it but it is probably the right thing to do. Not sure if I will replace it with a correct Ford unit. The car is incredibly original otherwise.

Russ,
The jury's still out on my OEM A/C install.  The July 4th parade is my goal.  I hope to put the engine in next week.

Murf,
I looked on the back and the GE logo and date was still 90% there.  My vision isn't great and it looked like 66 to me.
Before going to the house to get a magnifying glass, I "OH-SO-CAREFULLY" wiped across it ONCE, very lightly, with a DRY CLOTH.

NOW it's only 10% there.  Oh well....

Here's a couple of pictures.  You can barely make out "66" now.  I guess it's one of the original ones?
That's remarkable because I drove it A LOT at night when I was in high school, and I drove it home to GA from Seyour Johnson AFB in NC, at least 50 times, AT NIGHT.  8 Hours a pop.  The guy I sold it to probably NEVER drove it in the dark from 1980 till 2009, when I bought it back.
