Topic: Yellow stripe on 66 dual exhaust mufflers?

Ive tried searching the archives for information regarding factory paint markings on 66 dual exhaust mufflers, but have an early pair of original 66 exhaust that shows a yellow stripe near the date stamps on each.  mufflers are dated 10-65 and 11-65.  There is a little grease on the underside of the exhaust and I have not attempted to clean them in fear of removing the stripes.  Are these yellow stripes widely known or other examples someone can direct me for reference of duplicating for restoration on another pair?  Below are photos of the exhaust (I'm now "storing them" on my 66 HP conv since I do not drive the car).

Yes have seen paint marking on some of the original 66 dual exhaust mufflers I've seen, owned or have pictures of. Happen to be all that were produced in the Nov 65 batch that was produced. Not really stripes as observed on these examples but more like spray dots though of course a guy could get sloppy or carried away.




Have seen a green marks on the other muffler(different side) as one might expect but these don't show up as well as the yellow.   Have not been recommending or sharing the markings in general since they have not been found in great numbers since so few original mufflers are or have ween out there in good enough condition to see/find the markings.

Sorry don't apparently have a green mark example. Know that there is one up in the attic but apparently didn't take a picture before I put it away    Will have to correct that when I get up there for the Christmas totes in a few weeks.

Thanks for your post Jeff!  Very cool to see those examples.  If there is little data on the markings, I'll wait until more surface that I can try and accurately duplicate them and even know whether or not they would be correct for my application.
