BOSS 302 Distributor Points Cam C9AZ-12210-A
« on: November 08, 2024, 10:16:48 PM »
I have a distributor here that needs a Points cam the Ford part number is C9AZ-12210-A, The Autolite part number is DF-371. The distributor arrived with a cam that was apparently placed in a rotary head and machined flat every 45?. and they did a poor job of that as well. So I need one of these. Please contact me if you have one of these that is available. Thank you tutorial below.

As you can see the points cam on the left has a very rough finish, most importantly it is flat on every face. The distributor points cams are not flat on each face you can see the line in the middle of the points cam face on the right. This is as it should be to keep the points from bouncing at speed.

In addition as most of you have seen before there is a counterbore on top of the points cam that allows the standard rotor to be used instead of a special shortened version that would be another super rare can't find part for the BOSS 302, BOSS 429, BOSS 351 or 72 HO 351 cars.

Putting the points cam together with a standard one you can see that in addition to the counterbore the points cam overall height is taller than a standard part.

If you are buying a used distributor pay attention to the condition of the parts that are hard to find and expensive when missing. Thank You,

John

Jim,
Yes that cam would work for a Pertronix Ignitor I or II, however that is not what he wants, so I am shopping for a replacement. They are out there so I will still look.
