68 Hood Trim Molding Screws 379560-S101
« on: October 17, 2024, 10:57:04 AM »
I'm not sure I have the correct screws attaching my molding to the front of my hood.  Plus 2 or 3 of them won't tighten because the hole has enlarged.  I was thinking about using rivet nuts and threaded screws instead.

Here's a picture of the screws I have.  On the left is the one installed. The head is 3/8. On the right is one I got from NPD. The head is 5/16.  The right one doesn't look like the AMK picture in the fasteners book.

What would be helpful is what is the diameter of the washer pan head.

David,
You are faced with the age old problem of making the hole for the screw "smaller". Have you considered JB Weld? I've had reasonable success by using a "dab" of JB Weld on the hole (to make it smaller by conforming to the size of the screw), a "dab" of lithium grease on the screw (for "ease" of getting the screw in and out) and an overnight "curing" time.
It worked on my door sills plates on my 66 Hardtop.
