Intake manifold
« on: August 18, 2024, 04:16:05 PM »
I'm restoring a 64 1/2 D code coupe with a build date of 6/28/64. When I received the car it had 2 intake manifolds with it. One is a C5OE-9425-A with a build date of 4F13. The other is a C4oe-9425-B with a build date of 4C13. Which one is correct for my engine?
      Thanks in advance.

So more info might be helpful, such as the assembly date of the engine (pic 1 below). It's on a "tab" on the engine block, the yellow arrow, near the distributor (The red arrow points to the ID number for the HP head.). It's in the format you've called out. If the engine assembly date is before the manifold cast date, then the manifold was cast after the engine was assembled and should not be used. There is also an engine cast date near the starter motor.

Gives you a good look into how far off the "build date"/ projected on on the door tag is off  :)

Will see if I have any closeup's of intake casting engineering numbers in my files

Guess that was 4F16 (June 16 1964) for casting date of the block. Car scheduled build date F28 or June 28 1964   Didn't focus on those dates but thanks for including them

Found an unrestored D code with a projected build date of 14G (July 14) scheduled for a couple of weeks after yours. One that I posted pictures of in that section of the site but that was not a close up or adjusted do the engineering number was clear like below

It shows a C5OE-9425-A intake but sorry no casting date for it

Given what we have so far I would believe your C5OE-9425-A with the casting date of 4F13 (June 13 1964) would be the best choice

Best and only what I found. Lots of air cleaners and distributors in the way in pictures

Discussion about when the engine assembly date stamp was applied was split and is posted in the thread below
