67 Dashpad
« on: June 06, 2011, 10:36:42 PM »
I just removed the original dash pad from my 67 coupe.  After removing the metal trim by the windshield, I found three additional screws that fastened the dashpad to the metal dash by the windshield - two on the drivers side & one on the right.  I do not recall seeing any mention of these additional screws in the assembly manual - should I replace them?

Just about every one I have ever removed had those screws, I would put them back. Marty

+1  - Don't trust the assembly manual 100%  always double check with original cars (same plant and time period) as well as the forum ;)

Thanks for the info!  Based on the angle of the screws, it seems the only way to get on them with a screwdriver is to take the windshield out?

I think they were originally put in with the windshield out

The replacement dashpad I ordered does not have the screw holes cut out like the original.  Do they all come this way or does someone sell them with the same cutouts as the originals?

Unfortunately the replacement dash pads have a lot to be desired. The grain is wrong and as you mentioned there are no screw cut outs. If you still have your old one lay it over the new one and mark out the cut outs. Other wise you will have to measure them out. I have been looking for a originail red one for about two years. I may have to dye a black one but at least it will look correct. Marty

Thanks Marty!  Yeah, I immediately noticed the difference in the grain pattern.  Beginning to wish I would have just left the original one in there, but after 40+ years it was showing it's age.  Looks like I'll be trying my hand at cutting the new one!
