1967 390 GT Exhaust system
« on: July 13, 2024, 11:18:27 PM »
Hi all, can you please advise if it is better to go with the traditional transverse type exhaust system for a 390 GT or go with the straight through type.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.  Also is the 390 Exhaust system a 2" or 2.5" as I want to include the factory dual exhaust tips bu there appears to be two different sizes.

Thankyou

It would all depend on if you want it to look like the system that was installed on the assemblyline or if that original look is not a priority. If you are not concerned about the original look then eliminate the transverse would be my suggestion. That non original look is typically outside what this forums mission statement is about. The 67 390 exhaust was 2 inch . I would only go with the 2.5 if going for the straight through non original system . You will have to modify dual exhaust tips to work with 2.5 pipe. That is unless there is a special aftermarket 2.5 made 67 style tip . Just my opinion . Others may have a different one.

Great thanks Bob for your comments.  I would like to stick to the original look but here in Australia finding a company that does tht type of system is difficult.  Easier to look at a straight through system.

Much appreciated

Consider this company - https://www.scottfullerreproductions.com/page/page/4594567.htm
They make concourse grade reproduction exhaust systems and did send them to Perth, Aus, for a 64 1/2 Mustang. They are expensive.

Precision Exhaust provides both transverse as well as other performance exhaust products for many Ford products.

on our 1967 GT350 we installed the following exhaust components from different sources to keep the cost lower than purchasing the complete Fuller system

Exhaust system is made up of components:
H-pipe and mid pipes are from Precision
Tail pipes and Chrome Tips are from Fuller (wanted Fuller as part numbers are on talipipes and Chrome Tips are exact reproductions)
All clamps, brackets and hardware are from Fuller(all brackets/clamps are just like originals with ford logo, some with partnumbers)
Hi flow transverse muffler is from Waldron and it sounds fantastic! (Wanted more of a growl thant stock transverse, Installed Waldron Mild Imposter muffler)

Great information, thanks very much.  By coincidence my 67 is also a Factory Lime Gold as well.

will look into the business you mentioned for the parts.

Thanks again everyone
