Cal special deck lid paint
« on: June 04, 2011, 07:01:16 PM »
The Cal Specials deck lid was painted off the car, this is clearly the way it was. Pics attached.  I tried to ask this question on the cal special web site, but it wants me to post a number of things before I can attach pictures.  Scott Fullers cars appear to have been painted on the car, he is the only cal spec owner I know.  How often is this seen?  Bolts had no paint and pictures are pretty clear.  Thanks for any input! Armond

Heres a pic from an AZ. original paint car I had about 9 years a go. Bolts were not painted on this car.  Original jack/spare instructions, original chalk numbers on the rear valance.  Chris

Thanks Chris and Marty.  I'm glad to see there are others out there the same way.  Armond

Armond, I don't see many cal specials out here but I was under the impression they were painted on the car. Looks like you found something different

Always hard to tell from pictures. Is that white paint under the Blue?

Again pictures, the threads of the bolts seem to have a different finish then the heads. What are the Stampings on Bolt Heads?

Thanks, Andrew

How often is that seen? IMHO not often

Looking through my collection all were painted (on those that had what appeared to be original paint and included a clear picture of those items

Now its possible (would need to compare the point in time of the unpainted ones found) that unpainted was the norm for a specific period of time.

Armond - yours is a March 13th car car below March 15th. Really close to one another so I'm at a lost of why the difference in production practice in this example being so close to one another. Second picture below is from a car  with a VIN before  your car (1876 numbers before  - sorry no Marti or real build date)

Here is a shot of or original paint trunk bolts from the one I own.

Thats not white paint, it is the pinkish color of the glass resin.  The threads just look dark because of the shadow.  The cheap camera will change the original colors.  It is different, but I thought it would make a good discussion.

Armond,
I checked dads GT-CS today and it was painted on the car too. Its build date was 2-28-68 and as I said earlier my HCS was painted on the car and its build date is 7-16-68. Marty
