Topic: Roof Side Weatherstrip Clip

What are the roof-side weatherstrip clips supposed to accomplish? The stated purpose is to guide the glass into the weatherstrip and to keep the glass from rattling. Using either original clips or the reproductions, I don't see these clips doing either of those things.
Could someone help me understand their importance? Are these clips really needed?

We first saw these installed on 69 models after they did away with the vent windows and the support they provided to the side windows especially at highway speeds with the windows up and no vents in the door jamb we start seeing in 70. Not certain exactly the purpose or purposes they were designed to prevent or control but Ford spent money on engineers that determined they were needed and lost of money to have them installed on almost or all passenger cars in 1970.

Of course from the sites perspective they are needed since being without them would not be correct on a restored car. Plus I don't know why an owner would not want to replace or install them when redoing a car.  I have installed or had them in all the 69-up Mustangs and other Ford products I've restored or owned

I don't remember seeing these on my son's 70' Mach I. Can someone post a pic of where these are supposed to go? And it looks like a coupe- fastback takes 4 of them?

They "guided" the top of the window to seat into the upper part of the weatherstrip to do as you surmised, noise, also to "prevent" water from seeping in.

Yes it takes two each side.

As for location you could just look for the original mounting holes. To help locate those holes here are some pictures

Is the posters link the correct guide clip part for a 70?

I only recall them being used on the front of the 69 coupe. The photos with 2 are clearly 70.

As per Jeff's OEM pictures, the front clip is on the outside and the rear clip is on the inside of the weatherstrip.  My car is missing the rear clips.   The ford shop manual doesn't show the front clip assembly, orientation or the location.  From the attached picture from my car, the front clip is on the outside of the weatherstrip and is riveted in place.   Both sides are assembled the same.  Due to patina and vehicle history, I believe these are original from the Metuchen assembly plant.  Note that the shape of the front clip has a formed channel for the outside base of the weatherstrip to fit in.  I assume the shop manual picture of the clip is the rear clip since its on the inside of the weatherstrip and opposite the drip rail.  Note that the new clip does not have a channel for the base of the weatherstrip to fit but aligns and assembles with the cut out notch and the inside edge of the the stainless retainer.  Edit add: I do not believe the front clips are reproduced.  My front clips were very rusty and missing the dipped rubber coating. I used OSPHO to neutralize the rust and then brushed a couple of coats of black rust-oleum on them.  A big improvement over the rust!
