Back seat upper bracket bolts Non-Fold down Fastback
« on: February 29, 2024, 06:58:04 PM »
Hi all.  I'm new to this site and still learning how to navigate it.  My car is a 69 Mach 1, built in November of 68 at the Metuchen plant.  A lot of the car was taken apart by the previous owner, so I've been left to figure a lot of the assembly on my own.
My question is for a non-fold down seat. How does the seatback bolt to the upper brackets?   Is there supposed to be nutplates inside the metal frame?  I haven't found anything in the manuals showing the non-folding seat.
Apologies in advance if I'm asking this question in the wrong forum.

First welcome to the site. Hope you find the support and information your looking for to support your concours projects

Lots of information already posted on the site so things like using the search feature (can be hit or miss depending on what words you use for the search) or the Unrestored picture section of the site.

For the latter we have a picture of how the rear seat section is retained on at least some fastbacks assembled at other plants

Example in the 69 April SJ M Code Mach I - Unrestored Picture Thread    - picture labled Trunk 1C

Another in  69 NJ 428CJ Mach I - Unrestored Picture Thread - picture labeled T1

Have others I could upload and post but that should answer your question. Again welcome

Do you have the Ford shop and assembly manuals?  They are readily available.  The interior assembly manual should cover this detail.   Not sure if this diagram answers your question, but it's something I could find quickly.

Thanks for the pictures and other information.  I do have the Osborn manuals and Ford shop manuals but they don't show the non-folding seat as far as I could find.  The bolt appears to be some sort of "T" bolt going through the seat back.  What's shown in the exploded view in the picture sent, don't look like what is being offered from the aftermarket suppliers.  Thanks again for the help.

The diagrams I included are from the MPC.  I did not have the 1969 assembly manual at my fingertips.

You are asking about this (see picture), correct?

None of the highlighted fasteners are listed in the Ford fastener catalogs I have.

However, "Jim's" fastener spreadsheet (available in the library here) has this info:

50847 = 1/4-20X1 1/8PAN 1/2,XREC,EXT LKW
351247 = 1/4-20X1 1/8PAN 1/2,XREC,EXT LKW
381864 = 1/4-20NUT,CROWN 0.469,7/16HEX

For a source, you can check with Jim (jwc66k), or see what NPD has...AMK also.

That's great information.  I just realized I was looking at the wrong part in the exploded view when I thought it was a "T" bolt.

Bracket to unibody /fold down lock bracket have a hex head with a flared base that works as a washer to spread the pressure. Finished in P&O

The acorn nuts for the other side of the bracket to the seat section is one of the safety "make sure they are torqued and correct" piece of hardware that started in this location and has the safety red dye finish. More on that and how to reproduce can be found in other threads just on that process
