convertible top wheelhouse jute pad differences
« on: February 27, 2024, 12:41:06 PM »
I am looking for info on this D shaped  jute pad that is glued to top of convertible wheelhouses as its either missing after paint or falling apart or rodent eaten on etc. I am wondering what thickness or sizes this pad is on different plants as i have some here from 69 dearborn cars but was wondering if all planta and years convertibles used them?

I have some from a 67 Metuchen convertible that I am working on. They are a white material like a scotch brite and 1/4 inch thick.

I will get some pictures if you like.

My original 69 dearborn is 12'' x 6''.  D shaped so ford must have widened it after  cars were getting bigger vs 65-66.  what is 67-68 ?

My October 1965 NJ convertible has them, I see the one on the left side. Is this material used in any other location on the body? Does anyone sell the material? These got thrown out during the restoration of my Dearborn convert. so I'd like to add them back.

I am working on making some up from old material as that jute was used in other places in automobiles but trying to figure out sizes and years and different plants. Also need to figure out the thickness as my 69 is thicker than early years and wondering about 68 size.  This detail is often missing on vert restorations and u can see up in trunk where its supposed to be when judging cars the rear area of the pad. These often got chewed up from mice or just started falling apart from the vert top laying on pad when  the top is down for long times while driving car top frame is bouncing around rubbing pad. Best way to find a good pad in place is from a far north vert that top stays up most of the year.
