1966 Metuchen markings
« on: April 11, 2011, 09:11:23 AM »
Does anyone have data on what typical markings have been found on 1966 Metuchen built cars?  I don't want to recreate someone else's markings, just want a reference of where to look.  For example, did Metuchen use radiator support markings like Dearborn even though Metuchen cars had buck tags?

Yes, Metuchen had the markings on the passenger side of the radiator support.  They were usually painted over like Dearborn cars.  Rotation number usually found on lower front cross-member (piece below radiator support).  Otherwise, paint-ok stamps on fenders, cowl and sometimes the bottom of the hood, maybe a different format or design.

I've also found a hook number for the fenders on the frame rails, behind where the front bumper brackets attach.

Thanks Charles.  Hopefully I can find some of these in my search :)  btw checked out your blog on the K code vert.  Very nice!  Question, what is the tape Ford used to hold down the fuel sending unit lead?  Did they use the same type tape in all three plants?

Not necessarily, it seems to have varied in placement and thickness of tape used.

Here is a paint stamp from a factory Metuchen car I had.  It's on the drivers side cowl.

Here's some examples from my April 66 Metuchen car, in the family since new.
cowl panel, one on each side different names, both still visible

underside of hood one on each side different names (only one still visible)

This is a mystery stamp that is on the right side by the shock tower, visible but not readable anymore

fenders also had stamps, barely visible now, hope this helps.
