70 Running Change Thread - Dearborn Window Retainer Plate
« on: December 15, 2022, 06:49:26 PM »
The thread is posted to focus on the window adjusting plates (on door of sportroofs, Mach I and Boss's as well as quarter windows of coupes and convertibles, of 1970 Dearborn built Mustangs since both were built on the same line.

To add your findings from an unrestored 70 Dearborn example please include the VIN, your findings as well as the real build date (from a Marti report) if available.

Thank you
Jeff Speegle

Went through my current collection of pictures and offer these observations and findings from unrestored cars I have pictures of in hopes that the information will help others.

As discussed in other threads the findings can be a results of a number of things
1- During the production period the plates were placed somewhere on the body when the car/unibody was painted so that they received a coat of that paint and were installed with that side showing. This could be by placing the plates on the cowl or sportroofs/Mach I's on the lower rear window opening ledge
2- The possibility that the painted plates were installed upside down (unpainted side showing) due to error and an inspector not having it corrected.
3- Plates being painted elsewhere in black and being installed on the car during a production period
4- Plates being painted elsewhere in silver and being installed on the car during a production period

Rather than posting pictures of each I will just provide my findings below. Can post each if someone feels that helps the discussion Sorry don't have real build dates for the vast majority of these

Interesting pattern to say the least.
Will insert others VINs and findings into the list

Dearborn 0F91Q509850 Cougar Eliminator, built Sept 29,1969.  Passenger side is black/rust.   Driver side is body color but I'm 99,9% positive that door was replaced.
