Mufflers for 65 GT
« on: August 15, 2022, 06:48:48 PM »
I'm interested in putting new mufflers in my 65 GT (current ones are replacements and not sure how long they have been on).

I want to leave everything else stock. There are SO many options for mufflers. Just looking for feedback on what sounds close to stock...maybe a bit more aggressive.

Thanks.

Considering the question is being asked on a concours forum:

The price for a 65-66 Mustang dual exhaust system from Scott Fuller Reproduction is about what I paid for a new 1966 Mustang Fastback 289, 4V, 4 speed, with a console, in March 1966 (DSO 11).

$2675 in 2022 is about $290 in 1966 dollars

No Charles. What I paid was $2725 for the whole Mustang in 1966, and that includes shipping. Fifty six years of inflation has driven up prices. A new 2022 Mustang V8 with a manual transmission is around $40,000.

Good grief, do you have to argue about everything?  It was a simple backwards calculation.  The point being $2725 today is not the same as $2725 in 1966.  How about you go and try to develop an exact reproduction exhaust system and let us know how much it costs.  Scott does not have to make these parts, he does it because he likes to.  We are lucky for that.

So inflation is a myth?
