Replacement Faria Console Oil Pressure Gauge
« on: June 25, 2022, 04:01:17 PM »
Just thought I'd post what I found out about the replacement oil pressure gauge Branda is selling for the 69. The gauge comes with a different shaped sending unit with a 1/8-1/4NPT adapter. The sender has the wire post on the top but offset to the side. I didn't like the look of the sending unit so I located an original style with the correct 1/4 fitting. when I finally ran the 428 with the proper style sending unit the gauge read 100 psi even though a mechanical gauge showed the engine had 60 psi oil pressure. With a little research and troubleshooting I realized why these gauges are shipped with a sending unit. These replacement gauges are on another resistance schedule. The OEM style schedule is like 10-80 ohms while the replacement is around 45-250 ohms. The question now is whether this new sender will fit on the 428. I know the sender won't fit while the oil filter adapter is bolted to the engine as the offset post on the sender hits the head.  I'm wondering though whether the sender will fit if it is installed in the filter adapter while the adapter is off the engine? Anybody have any experience with this?

It sounds like a mess. You may have to fit a 45 degree brass fitting to the oil filter adapter to give additional clearance for the odd ball sender to clear.  It will not look original regardless so you don't have much to lose in the looks department to get the repro sender/gauge combo to function properly.

Just in case you were lucky enough to save your original oil pressure gauge ,they can be restored.
