stoplight switch
« on: June 15, 2022, 03:07:53 PM »
Does anyone have suggestions on how to install the stoplight switch? It goes on the cross pin on the brake pedal, and wraps around the brake master cylinder pushrod. I've tried over a dozen times, I can't seem to get the washers, ferrel spacer, push rod and switch all lined up at the same time in order to install the locking clip. My fingers just won't go far enough up there. Is it supposed to be installed from the top down, after removing the instrument cluster?

Take out the driver's seat, you get a better view of what you are doing. Look in this forum's library in "Ford Car Parts" (aka MPC) Illustrated section 75 page 5 for a diagram. I didn't get mine in on the first try either.

The master cylinder push rod rotates, so you can rotate the end 45 degrees out, put the brake switch over the top of the push rod, aligning the holes, and then rotate both onto the shaft together.  If I remember right, there's a plastic washer that goes on the shaft first, then the switch/pin and then another plastic washer with the slide pin to secure everything.  Honestly, it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes.  If you're a big guy, Jim's suggestion of removing the seat may be best.
