GT500 toploader inspection cover finish

  Looking to install the inspection cover on my car and am wondering what the finish should be? Built in February 67.

The cover on the top loader is bare steel and so is the bellhousing (for flywheel) inspection cover in case that is what you meant. FYI the bellhousing inspection cover has a thin cork gasket which is typically left out of all modern gasket kits. Not hard to do but you will have to get cork material and cut it out yourself if you want that originality aspect.

Remember that the description is bare steel. Like the look of fresh new steel. No texture from blasting or other processes. Fair number of bare steel discussions here on the site

Since your doing a 67 Shelby, if your doing all the paint daubs, stamps and such the top cover would also typically include the cars second rotation number in white. That sort of details are also covered in the

Once rusty, the top inspection cover is hard to restore. I started with media blast and worked my way up from 80 grit to 600 on a DA. David Kee transmissions sells a nice (they say) cover that only needs to have a vent hole drilled.
Ebay has the proper gaskets now and again or PM me since I forgot I had one and found another, so I have one to spare.

Has to be really tough to get the trough around the outer edge smooth

My fingers got very raw from hand sanding those areas. Most was covered in oil, as that rested in the lower areas.
I would have been better advised to use the Kee  piece, yet I wanted to retain the original stamped in logo.

I gather your Shelby is an automatic...

Bare steel for manual as I previously mentioned. It was painted black on the different shaped automatic cover.
