Correct Radiator for 66 Mustang GT
« on: May 09, 2022, 09:48:55 PM »
Hello, I am trying to determine the correct radiator for a Metuchen built 66 Mustang GT with automatic transmission, A/C, power steering, and date of October 28, 1965.  I have attempted to find my answer through the site but possibly missed something.  I am having difficulty in finding the differences with the various suffixes (G1, M1, M2, Y1, Z1, Z2, and etc.).  Would anyone have a book or other resource you would recommend or know the specific radiator part number that I need?  I believe the first part of the number needed would be C4ZE-8005 but I could be wrong.  I would really like to understand the various suffixes.  My research of suffixes points to a mixture of San Jose versus Metuchen and automatic versus manual.  I appreciate your help.

The URL provided only takes me to the Search page and not a specific thread.

GT doesn't matter. Transmission type, engine and AC are what matter. This thread will help answer some of your questions, see chart at bottom of page 1. https://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=14405.0

Three main things to consider

1- Correct Identification markings and date code for your application.

2- Maker of the original radiator which will guide you to where the above information is located on the radiator (top tank/strap area) or no the drivers side, side strap.

3- Confirmation that the core and both tanks have the features that relate and support the identification numbers

In you case/example information would be on the side strap, top tank would be unmarked, bottom tank would have provisions for the automatic cooler lines and the supporting parts inside. No markings on the top tanks and the square sort of top ends of the side straps. Some of the pictures of 66's in the unrestored picture threads may show some of these details if you will look there
