The 1967 fast back trunk torsion rod is a one year only rod. Mine never held the trunk up so I bought another rod that was supposedly working before it was taken off another car. I am in the process of detailing and repainting my trunk area so I took the trunk lid off as a one piece assembly including the rod leaving only the brackets in the trunk for paint. There is some torque on the passenger side hinge due to the torsion rod, but I can move with my hand to line up the bolt holes. Is it better to install a new torsion rod with the trunk lid off or on? I am assuming on as the mounted trunk lid will give the leverage to twist the rod in while holding the trunk lid in place?
