I need help with applying these GT fender emblems! Please!
« on: March 17, 2022, 03:53:59 PM »
I've searched all over the web, and can't find any specific information on how to use these. I've seen them called "tube nuts" or "brackets", they go on the pins of the emblem to keep the secure. I've tried inserting them on the pins both directions, even ended up breaking off one of the aluminum pins :'( (I'll reconnect the pin). Please help! I don't want to mess anything else up.

Side note, the other emblems, such as the "MUSTANG" badging was sloppily super glued on by a previous owner. It concerns me that attempting to remove them will peel paint along with them.

Often called barrel nuts the nuts are installed into the predrilled holes from the exterior then the badge pins are inserted into the nuts, all equally then pressed into each as the badge is pressed into the fender. At times I've inserted a small awl into each to loosen them up a little or help seat them into their hole

To determine the correct size holes, I use dial calipers on the tube/sleeve/barrel nuts. This measurement tells me the maximum and minimum sizes, the maximum measured over the tube nut "prongs", the minimum measured over the tube nut "prong" with one pin of the emblem installed. Then the hole is drilled. I usually use a smaller size to make a pilot hole, then drill the full size (if you don't do this regularly, a two step drilling is recommended). Occasionally a round "watch" file maybe be used, especially after painting. If the hole is there, select the determined drill size to use to measure the hole.
The "nuts" go in before the emblem. Make sure the "prongs" engage the backside of the hole.
Part numbers are:
GT emblems - 378362-S102 (3/32 pin)
Engine emblem - 37548-S102 (3/16 pin)
They are available from AMK in kits only.
See the appropriate Mustang Body Assembly Manual (either 65 or 66, you didn't say) for more information. Get an entire set. You can thank me later.

I don't recall having that plastic or rubber in mine but I would see what size drill bit (the smooth end) you can fit in and then compare to the pin on the back of the emblem. It's hard to tell from your picture but the barrel nuts used with the MUSTANG letters are smaller than the GT emblem nuts and I wonder if that's your issue.

That's the "new and improved" version. I don't know if that type was ever used by Ford. Originals were all metal.
