1965 Rear Axle tag date vs differential date code
« on: February 24, 2022, 10:48:11 PM »
Hi,

Does the date code on both parts must match? Or is it possible to have a slightly difference on both numbers?

The rear axle vin tag of my car reads "WCZ-F 3.00 4LD 901"; The differential housing has the numbers "4H20". I can not find any info about the matching of these two items...I don't recall from what I remember of the history of the car have it replaced at some point. I believe all rear axle is factory original, but I want to double check with you. See pics.

Thanks
1965 WW Hardtop, 289-2V, 3-speed manual transmission. Unrestored. Assembled in Mexico on the time frame of: Oct 64-Feb 65.

No the three visible dates - third member casting, pinion retainer casting and metal identification tag will not all match one another. The date on the metal tag would be the latest of the three dates  since it was stamped and installed after the whole assembly (including the rear end housing) was completed
