Painting 67 (and 68) Door Speaker Grilles
« on: February 25, 2022, 12:31:01 PM »
I have a pair of 67 Door Speaker Grills to refurbish.
Is paint semi gloss black?
Did the top and bottom flange/lip get painted too?
Is it common practice to paint the entire piece and then wipe the paint off the ribs?

Thanks!

Yes semi gloss black is correct. The top and bottom did not get painted. Yes wipe off the ribs.

It is not worth restoring originals if there are bent fins or scratches given the excellent repros IMO .  Save the speaker mesh for the repros  because the mesh fabric is noticeably different on the repros.

Ok, I never knew that the repros are that well made. I haven?t taken the originals off car yet, will work on the better pieces first.
Would they have been bright dipped or anodized possibly?

The process is called brite dip or bright dip anodized .
