When using the search feature does a section need to be used for example 1969 Shelby or when  69 shelby is entered into the search bar the entire web site data is searched ?

Unfortunately I don't see any option to limit or restrict the search to one section or area of the site. Only Subject - all or any words. Poster - Order of findings and how old the post is

There is a search box on the top right just under the picture.
If you are at the top level "HOME" it will search everywhere.
If you are in the 69 section it will only search in that section. Since the whole site is tree based it depends on what part of the tree you are in as to how many levels down it will search. But it will restrict searches to just that section (and any of its branches).

If you used the advanced search section (in the horizontal button area starting with "Home Help
Search . . ." you can restrict the search to any subsection of the site. Or many subsections depending on how many checkboxes you have selected. Or do a global search by leaving the "all" checkbox checked.

Also if you are in one thread (say a build thread of one user) you can use the top right search box to search just the current thread. It is very context sensitive.

Thanks Bill, I have out of habit been using the search "bar" in the upper right of the page and lost sight of the search feature with the fine tune "features".

If I don't get immediate satisfaction from the embedded search, I usually head to Google so I have access to advanced search operators, so that I can get the focused results I'm looking for.

Another option is to use google for searches, like:   "firewall pad" site:concoursmustang.com


Sometimes that works better.

Building on that, here are some more Google search examples:

1. "firewall" site:concoursmustang.com
Results: all posts that contain the text string "firewall" (on this website)

2. "firewall pad" site:concoursmustang.com
Results: all posts that contain the exact text string "firewall pad" - note that "fire wall pad" would not be in the results due to the space between fire and pad.

3. "fire" "wall" "pad" site:concoursmustang.com
Results: all posts that contain the ALL three text strings, including "firewall pad", "fire wall pad" etc.

4. "front" "bumper" "67|68" site:concoursmustang.com
Results: all posts that contain "front" AND "bumper" AND (67 OR 68)

I have not yet figured out how to, for example, use Google to focus the search in the unrestored pictures section.  A use case - let's say I'm looking for examples of an unrestored 1969 car with red interior, or unrestored 1968 car with interior decor.

Click on the link for the sub-forum and copy the url to use in the search...

For instance for 69 go to Home and then select the 69 Mustang bullet. Copy the url. Paste and prepend "site:"
Append what you want in the double quotes (not required if you only search for one word).
site:https://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?board=4.0 "battery cable"
This a Google only construct -- so trying this while using other search engines will not work.

If you only want pictures then select "images" from the Google tab.

Must be doing something wrong. Just tried that (using the search button in a specific year section) and got results from multiple years

This has been very helpful indeed.  For the first time I took a deeper dive into the site-based search capabilities, and noticed a few things I never noticed before:

1. The default "Match all words" (logical AND) can be changed to "Match any words" (logical OR)

2. Instead of being limited to searching all "boards" or just one, you can first uncheck the "check all" selector box, then expand the "Choose a board to search in, or search all" and select one to many boards to search in.
