Trunk torsion bar question.

Should a Jan build 67GT500 with fiberglass trunk lid have the center support installed on the torsion bar as depicted? I have seen photos with and without. The steel framed trunk lids generally show them. If so, what should the finish and hardware be? FMR

Steel/'glass yes.
All 'glass, no.

I wish the 'glass did so the torsion arm would work correctly.
Without the center support the end of the bar goes through an odd motion and tries to pop off the end cap. It can also make an ungodly sound (twang)!

Mine is a 1/26/67 build GT500 and has the original center clip on it

+1 The guiding factory is the type of lid the car has.

Does your car have a hood with the steel innerstructure? I am curious about what Shelby vin number too.

Number 752. The hood is after market. This car had been used as a race car earlier in life so many things were missing/wrong. You saw it in Mustang OK. Frank

OK I remember now the lime gold car with the pleasant owner. Your car more typically came with the steel innerstructure hood and trunk lid . They were typically installed in pairs.  SA was transitioning to the all fiberglass parts and was completely done by about 600 units after yours. At least I have not found any later then that with out the benefit of knowing all completion dates. So your car could have possibly come with a all fiberglass hood and trunklid. The center bracket on the all fiberglass trunklid will make the torsion bar function better "IF" you can keep it from coming loose from the fiberglass. It will be a deduction in concours venues however because it never came that way from the factory. I would fix the hood and be done with the pair. The hood will always be a concours issue because the repro hood is noticeably made different then the original . You can possibly modify the repro hood to pass. Just some thoughts on the subject.
