1967 Fast Back Sound Deadener (Underlayment)
« on: November 06, 2021, 04:33:17 PM »
I took all of the interior out of my car to replace the rear corner fiberglass pieces as someone had cut speaker holes in them. Pleasant surprise was that all of my original floor pan was in perfect shape. I pulled off all of the original "wool/jute' sound deadener on the floor areas. A little surface rust there that I am treating with rust neutralizer and body color paint while replacing any seam sealer that I pulled out. I didn't see any signs of sound deadener under any of the fiberglass panels like the quarter panel where I see NPD sells a deadener for that panel. Other than the floor and the kick panels, where else should I put sound deadener? Thanks. I also plan on putting some one sided foam tape under the panels where they touch other panels to eliminate squeaks.

Believe your referring to underlayment (between the floor and carpet or panels above that) and insulation. What is often found attached to the back side of the kick panels rather than the sprayed on sound deadener.

Nothing originally was was attached to the back side of the fastback rear seat side panels.

Since you have a car with deluxe interior I'll look to see what pictures I can offer. Don't expect reproduction items to match what was installed originally. Often they are lacking in some way or the maker chooses to "make better" the item rather than copying it exactly

While you have them out check for any writing on the back side of those rear side panels

The passenger side just has the Ford part number info embossed. The drivers side as well but the drivers side has a "2" in pencil next to the metal support on the back side for the fold down trunk.

Sorry for the delay

Really difficult IMHO to determent in most examples if it was originally there or if it was removed or went to pieces over the years and trashed.

Not sure if the section over the rearend end (the floor section) receive a layer of underlayment on deluxe interiors and not standard ones.

Not sure if the application differs depending on when the car was built

I was able to find on unrestored deluxe interior from later in the year than your car and a San Jose car like yours

For your consideration. You can make out the underlayment panel that was installed under the rear set riser and the other one that laid over the rear floor section down to the seat one with cut outs for the seat belts and other details

Hope it helps in some way
