Consider this.
- there is an early and late standard 65 wiring set, the latter introduced at about the same time as the GT. Thus, the 65 model year (excluding the 64.5 version) has 3 different wiring configurations. Must have driven the beancounters nuts!
Ford assembly line workers were instructed to put a specific part in a specific place for a specific car - the directions came from a build sheet. If the part was revised, the worker didn't care, see the above. That "quirk" was also build date controlled.
Ford procurement bought parts (cable harnesses) to be delivered weekly (or daily) but certainly not for the entire year all at once. For the "beanies", it was all part of the changing production plan.
Yikes! At least I'm not going nuts. When I saw wire colors on schematics that were nothing like what I have, it really had me scratching my head. I'll try to document what I think is correct and then pass it by you.
The Mustang Assembly Manuals published by Osborn "should" be the latest version (and hopefully the last version) that was used for assembly, which is the reason you don't always find your exact wire colors. It is a problem for you, but not for Ford.
(Note: Osborn Productions has stated they did not get all the 64-73 Mustang documentation, and some of what they got was damaged beyond use.)
One more time, Ford was not building Concourse Grade cars - you are.
(Note: One of my sets of 65 and 66 Mustang Assembly Manuals is marked up with corrections, changes, general notes and personal observations. It's the only paper we have so I use it.)
