69 Grande 7.35-14 WSW tire manufacturer?
« on: July 27, 2021, 04:27:24 PM »
Working with the original owner of this Grande.  Car came with 7.35-14 WSW tires.  Owner has photos of the car showing the tires are NOT the ultra thin white walls.  Any ideas as to the tire manufacturer and the white wall width???  Car is being restored to MCA concours level.

Scott

The spare in this 50K mile '69 Grande is a BFG Silvertown.

I don't see a jack under the spare.  There is one of those plaid vinyl bags in the trunk (along with a plaid cover for the spare) so maybe the jack is in that bag?

I suspect that the luggage protector strip you see on the PS was added.  This car had been shown and maybe the owner thought there should be one.  Below is a picture of the DS strip, quite sloppy, which the PS one is not.  I also have pictures of an amazingly original 160K '69 Grande (a virtual twin in every way to this car) and there is only the DS strip on that car but sloppy just like this one.  Both Metuchen cars BTW.

Scott I looked and could not find any 7.35 x 14 pictures to help

The spare in this 50K mile '69 Grande is a BFG Silvertown.

Jim could you provide where and when the Grande was built to keep the details in context? Thanks

Thanks for the reply's.  But I ask with that tire in the photo being an F78-14 would that not be a replacement tire since the car was spec'd out as having 7.35-14 tires originally?  The tire says F78-14 "replaces 7.35-14".

I completely missed that.  I saw the 7.35 and quit looking.  As I mentioned, this car had probably been what my GA paint guy describes as "gettin' up" for MCA shows so perhaps the spare is not original.  My '69 car is a CJ and had the E70X14 Polyglas so I really don't know anything about the standard tire.  Just sharing the photos that I have of supposedly original cars.
