Thanks for the kind words, Tom. The real Sprint expert, though, is Tony Kovar. Much of what I learned, I learned from him.

In my research over the last few days I came across a piece of information that I thought I would share.  For those of you (like me) trying to confirm if your 1966 mustang came with a factory top, in the June 2010 issue of Mustang Monthly they ran a how to install a vinyl top article.  In the article they show dimples in the sheet metal in the front and rear glass area under the windshield trim that were used as factory alignment marks for the top seams.  The article states that only cars with factory vinyl had them.  Removing the trim and confirming that these dimples are there seems to be a good way to confirm a factory top.  According to several sources I have read not all mustangs came with the aluminum drip rail molding.  The existence of a TSB seems to confirm this.  The current consensus seems to be that there was a transition date for the installation of this molding.

I had two Metuchen '66 Hardtops...

The first one, I had, I actually found the build sheet crumpled into a little spitball lodged into the corner of one of the two upper dashpad "wing" support.  I could not believe it was there. I found it when I removed the original dashpad.

The second one, I found in an almost impossible place.. Above the headliner.. I was shocked that it was there.

Usually, They are found under the seats, but usually taped to the main wiring harness behind the instrument cluster.. look for Black tape.. Also, Sometimes, they are found on top of the original cardboard glove compartment, if it is still there.  Once in a great while, they are found under the original carpeting, but in that place, They are usually long since discintegrated..
I have found as well as other people, that "Deluxe" cars usually carry more than one copy of the build sheet but it holds true for regualr cars as well, just not as much. Usually 2 or 3 are found in one vehicle if it was unmolested I have found.   Metuchen cars were definately the most documented by the factory...no question.  It's almost a real "bummer", when you have a Metuchen car and find absolutely nothing...Because you are always expecting at least "something" from that plant.

Thanks Tony.  Unfortunately the car was molested when I bought it; color change and incorrect interior installed.  Since then I have had the car completely disassembled, repainted, and installed a new interior.  I found no build sheet.  If it was there someone got to it before me.  There is a slight chance that I may not have noticed one wrapped around the wiring harness.  I intend to take another look soon.

So what do you think?  Do I have a Sprint 200 here based on the chrome air cleaner, ornament delete and holes present for a console?
