Topic: 1968 - 390 Water pump finish on the rear...

Wondering how the rear of the water pump was finished by the factory on the FE powered 68 Mustangs?

Was the bolt on rear plate left zinc plated (and likewise the bolts), or was it all painted blue with the rest of the pump?
This one has been repainted a few times in its life, so I have no way of knowing...

All painted blue after installed on motor, along with bolts and bypass hose. You will be surprised there is usually a good amount of blue on the backsides.

Like Pete says mostly blue. It was painted along with the rest of the engine so the lower part didn't get very good coverage and the top rear is interfered with by the heater hose that bypasses some coolant from the pump to the intake.

Thanks guys, that's what I guessed. I was just checking as there's a guy on eBay selling rebuilt date correct FE pumps with unpainted rear covers and non OEM bolts. I didn't think he was doing them councours anyway, as he is painting 68' pumps the later corporate dark blue, but ya never know until you ask...

What year used a dark blue that was different? Ford used Corporate Dark Blue from 1966 - 78. As far as I know gray came after that.
