Trim Ring ID Help
« on: May 01, 2021, 09:03:08 PM »
Came with a 68 trim ring I picked up today at a swap meet.

Nearly exactly the same as the 68 ring except:
  • Polished
  • Outer lip has an additional ridge and depression
  • Slightly skinnier @ 1 7/8" instead of 2" for the 68

Maybe a 66 part? The lip throws me off a little but I can't say I've ever laid eyes on an original 66 version.

Different size rings were use for 66, 67 and 68 Style Steel wheels. Go to this Forums Library and look up the Ford Car Parts (aka MPC) a copy of which is in every years' section. You want Ford base number 1210 in the wheels section.

Thanks for the help so far. Definitely measures similar to a 66 ring.

My remaining question is on the outer edge. I highlighted the part that seems different from any of the Mustang Trim rings that I have been able to find pictures of.

My original 66 Style Steel Wheels trim ring has the "lip". So do the reproductions. I looked at the NPD website and they sell a Scott Drake reproduction for 66, 67 and 68, all with the same "lip". I have a set of reproduction 67 Style Steel Wheels on my 66 Hardtop and they do not have the lip.
(I got the 67 ones about 20 years ago because I wanted a wider wheel to accommodate P225/60R14 tires.)

I purchased two of the 1210-1BA from NPD about two months ago. Didn't realize they were polished and not correct "enough" for my preferences. They do not have the lip indention. The set that came with my 68 is a service replacement from what I gather since they have the remnants of a sticker and no ink stamp. They do have the brushed appearance but no indented lip.

I'm calling this a 66 trim ring unless you all say otherwise.

FYI; Pontiac used a trim ring with the additional ridge as described in the original post.
