Dearborn FMX transmission numbers
« on: May 17, 2021, 09:32:37 PM »
In the process of cleaning up my fmx for my 70 mach  1  I noticed  what looked to be a 29 or a 19  on top of the cast iron housing. To me that  is what it looked like . I have no build sheet for my car at all. Its a dearborn car if that matters. Mark

You should have a VIN stamp on it somewhere.

Numbers likely varied and were related to assembler or inspector numbers applied through the transmission assembly process. Other numbers that could be applied would relate to car assembly plants and not applied at all of them.

Have examples of a number of applications showing letters also applied with paint or maker in different colors

Automatic transmissions are one of the more difficult items to collect markings from since they were so often rebuilt and rattle canned as part of the process

On my Dearborn 69, I have what might be a hand written "87" in yellow, and an "E" in orange. You can also see a yellow fat "O" and a green daub on the front pump.

Accurate looking but not a Concours Restoration/build. See my build photo gallery at 69GT350 Hertz Build

Thats interesting i should correct myself here . The FMXtransmission came out of a clunker mach  that was badly rusted. If you look close you can see a 29  .  Im not sure what plant it was built at i have the buck tag yet . It was a white mach 1 2v cleveland with tach dash and a shaker . I had to snatch it up for a good parts  car. Mark
