What is this weatherstrip?
« on: March 22, 2021, 08:23:53 PM »
I am trying to figure out where this piece of weatherstrip comes from/goes on my 64.5 Coupe Dearborn mfgr. It is in with my door parts, (both sides) but my disassembly photos are unclear where it?s from.  They are 3-1/2 pA? long.  Any ideas?
Thanks.
Phil

By putting your item on a white background the camera's exposure meter goes nuts. It's setting the exposure for white, hence the item of interest is now just a dark blob.

I prefer to take pictures of items in the shop on the brown seat of the shop chair or on the Mustang's trunk mat. The later works well.

Could it possibly be the seal for the rear quarter window. There should be two but mirror images of each other.

It looks like a broken off piece of the roof rail weather-strip... attaches to the body, seals the top of the door glass and qtr glass to the car.

Jim, yes!  They are mirror images of each other.  I searched the 64.5 Body Assy Manual and could not find any detail. Where do they go
Thanks.

Guess my post was skipped over...  It's definitely a broken off piece of the roof rail weather-strip.

+1 to Charles' response. And on my June 64'  Dearborn built coupe, the front portion of the roof rail weatherstrip did NOT have a hold down screw or the metal tab.

Charles, no, not skipped over, just in a rush to get out of the house this morning.  You may very well be correct. The headliner is not in yet so none of the weatherstrips are in either.  I have not looked at the replacement weatherstrips yet.  Just seems strange that both pieces are the exact same size.  These were in my parts of restored hardware for the doors which I am working on now. Appreciate your input.

Hipo giddyup, thanks for the heads up.  I took this apart 13 years ago, and don?t recall the specifics of this one.  It is a mid July Dearborn car.

That's a very good replacement pic.

Charles, I searched through a ton of photos i took during disassembly and found this one.  It clearly shows the piece in question as the forward piece of the roof rail weatherstrip as you had thought.  Unbelievable that both sides broke at the exact same place.  Also as Giddy up said, no front screw as well.  Thanks for your help.
