Since the console was such a popular option and is still a favorite add on I thought I would point out some differences between the floor console wiring for the automatic shift indicator light part number C7ZB-15A808-D. First let me say that all of the these have a black wire and a blue wire but some of the blue wires have faded over years of sunlight exposure. Picture 1 shows all 4 different setups that I have. Starting from the bottom to top: The first one has the part number on the black wire. It also has a small piece of rubber holding the two wires together. The second one has no numbers on either wire but has a part number tag which doubles as a holder keeping both wires together. Also notice the blue plug end is slightly different from the other blue plugs. The third one has the part number on the blue wire and has tape holding the wires together. The forth one has the part number on the blue wire which is slightly different ending with a B instead of a D (C7ZB-15A808-B). This one also has a different plug end which is black instead of blue and it has both a male and female connector. Going From my own experience this last one with the black plug end was used on the 1967 XR7 Cougar although I question why they used a Mustang number instead of a Cougar number unless the very early Mustangs used this plug end as well. I have never noticed a Mustang with this black plug end. The 1967 Cougar with a standard interior console uses the Mustang version with the blue plug end. The 1968 XR7 Cougar also uses the Mustang version with the blue plug end.

It has been my experience that most 67 cars had the black male/female plug. I have seen the blue two male plugs on 68 cars. Possibly some late 67s used the blue version.

+1 My November 66 actual build date uses the black connector (male/female) version.
Parts vendors list early & late 67 versions and the late version being same as 68.
I imagine the reasoning for the running change was that he dome lamp plug was also male/female (to avoid errors in assembly).

On a side note: Do not tape the two wires of the lamp together the entire length (for any reason such as a repairs).
My original wire had gotten pinched in assembly and a screw cut several strands of the wire. I figured the tape would prevent the wire from breaking. The tape caused too much friction in the movement going back and forth, it would eventually disconnect the linkage rod after about 10 to 20 full swings from Park to Low. (drove me crazy till I bought another lamp harness).
