Do we know when they started using them in SJ?
Looks like job #1 for 66 as best I can tell from what I have. A better question for you might be are there other unrestored examples that didn't have driver side inner fender without the holes for the plugs and no evidence of staple holes? Green cars are ones observed or reported to have no staple holes or pads in place with staples. Underlined examples were ones with holes for staples or pad in place with staples

Guess there was no back up plan or a second choice if the machine was not working and this may have brought forth the idea of changing the retaining method (to the plastic push pins) to eliminate the need for the stapler and any problems.
