Interior Seat Date Codes/Tags
« on: December 17, 2020, 05:46:30 PM »
Hey everyone,

As I look for original interior pieces I had a question regarding dates. As far as I know the front and rear seats have a metal tag dating the part. I found a set of nice original rear seats for my car and I was thinking of just transferring my metal tag over. I was wondering if the seats have another printed/painted on dates somewhere else that I'm not aware of that would cause a mismatch? My car specifically is a 69' Mach 1 if that affects anything.

Thanks,
Jeffrey

Believe the material the covers has a date code on it so that batches can be tracked and identified if there is/was a problem with a batch.  Recall seeing the batting used to make up the covers also having some identification information printed on it also. Of course neither of these are typically seen on an assembled seat like the metal tags you mention. Those (ones I have pictures of) have a standard full date code in the second line of stamped information. This information is related to the springs and frame not a completed seat.

Frames with springs can also have tags identifying that a particular one was tested  or have on it the shipping label (one of maybe 20-50 on a pallet) identifying the group of springs, source, number and shipping details this would not be typical for all sets of springs

Thank you, that was helpful. I'm going to see if I can find anything on my original seats. Sorry about posting on the 'interiors' forum I thought this had to do with all years.

Earlier cars have different tags made of heavy paper and are coded differently so moved it here

Guess I should post a picture of what I think you found and asked about

Couple of other threads covering other years and different tags than the ones you likely found on your 69

And another one for 69 that I may merge with this one

So I answered my own question recently. I just purchased a set of original front comfort weave upholstery for my mach 1. The seat backs are indeed dated on the inside headrest portion. As for seat bottoms, I could not find any anything except for some letters and numbers. I'd post some pictures, but I spent half an hour trying to upload to my gallery and couldn't without the webpage crashing.  :-\ Anyway, just thought I'd share in case anyone stumbles on this thread.

Edit: Now we're talking... I guess the images from my camera were too large. I updated with the pictures of what I'm describing. Happy New Years!
