FS: Bendix 2227161 Master Cylinder
« on: December 14, 2020, 02:24:54 PM »
This is a used Bendix 2227161 master cylinder as was used on cars with power front disc brakes. I can't read the date code, but according to information found on Jack Brooks' Dead Nuts On web site this is probably a 1972 or later casting because it has a hex head piston stop bolt instead of a round, torx stop bolt. You can buy a reproduction of the correct stop bolt from Jack's web site here:

https://www.deadnutson.com/bendix-master-cylinder-piston-stop-screw-fine-thread-24/

I just took this off my car to swap it out for a more correct casting. I'll include a new, but not original, cap. It has the dimple above the secondary fluid port. The fluid ports measure 1/2-20 (secondary) and 3/8-24 (primary), so this is NOT a Boss 429 casting. The primary fluid port has just been heli-coiled. I had this rebuilt a few years ago prior to installing it, so it has something like 1,000 miles on it. You should be able to bolt it on and use it right away.

$100 plus shipping.

Scott, the hex head stop bolt typically means that it is a 67 early 68 production master. Bendix transition to the the conical shaped stop bolt after that time. By early 70's the stop bolt was eliminated altogether with just the undrilled stump of steel left visible. Best of luck with your sale.

That's surprising since just this week I had occasion to remove the master cylinder from my GT-E which was built Feb 23, 1968. It's like the one Scott is trying to sell. When I restored the car 25 years ago I sent the booster and master to "Booster" Dewey. Apparently they are the right ones.

Mine has the hex stop bolt - I was thinking of buying the other stop bolt from DNO but maybe I shouldn't?

I don't want to tell you what to do. I don't know at what point the transitioned happened in 68 but I do know early production had the hex and later production had the conical shaped. The leaves a lot of wiggle room for ether.
