I don't believe that the code "X "would have changed between 65 and 66? I just painted my 66 vintage burgundy coupe a few years ago. Attached is a picture of the PPG label if you go that route. Even though it says Chrysler, I was told by the paint supplier that companies can "purchase" the specs for the mixes? For example, Mack truck has  the color match specs for Ford's Wimbledon white. At least this is what the paint guys have told me? Hope this helps.

Hi Bill,

Thank You for replying. PPG actually has a formula for Ford code X, Vintage Burgundy and their mix number is 50657. The problem is paints of yesterday used lead which has been removed and now the color is changed. I'm trying to get a very accurate match to the original color. Jeff

Your best bet would be take an unrestored part, maybe the back side of a headlight bucket, or a chip from under the windshield molding (pinch weld area) to see if they can color match. Probably your best bet with what you are explaining.

And it looks like they did change Vintage Burgundy between 65 and 66, two different codes.  Nothing is easy..

My reference material says Dupont 4490 for both years, and 1967.

For PPG they show 50657 for 65', and 50669 for 66'. I bet it is hard to tell the difference side by side. ::)

Look in this Forum's library in the Ford Car Parts (aka MPC) paint section, page 8, for paint code X, 65 thru 67 are the same, Ford M1J 1632; and page 12, Ford CC66AZ-19500-D. Note: It's called "Maroon Metallic".
