Interior paint color for trim code 2B
« on: November 26, 2020, 01:06:18 PM »
I'm restoring a 68 ragtop which is Brittany Blue with dark blue/light blue interior (trim code 2B).  I'm trying to find the right interior paint color for the dark blue parts such as the windshield dash trim.  Best I can tell, they were originally painted with Ditzler code 13540 dark blue poly flat, but not 100% sure of that.  I have (hopefully) attached a photo of this part below.  Can anyone direct me to the right rattle can paint color?

First welcome to the site. We hope that you find the support and information helpful in your restoration endeavours

Yes the number you posted is a period correct color code from your blue as listed in the Paint Codes, 1968 Interior & Exterior  - Information and reprints of period paint codes   you can view in the Library section of the site

Problem is finding a match this many years later especially with rattle cans sine you have no control of the mix. Maybe someone that has purchased the color recently can comment how close to original is it or is not. Another option would be to purchase just the paint. Sorry this is an ongoing challenge for many and there are plenty of threads related to older paint, codes and currently available paints.

Again welcome

Thanks Jeff.  This is my first restoration and am getting lots of help from sites like this one and my local Mustang Club.  Restoring this blue beauty to its former glory is truly a labor of love since I have owned the car for over 40 years, although it hasn't been driven since the mid-80's.

I found a product from Scott Drake called AccuMatch Interior Paints L-5770.  It appears to be intended as a match to 67-68 interior dark blue.  Think I'll try a can and see what kind of match it is.  I'll post my results, but was wondering if anyone else has tried this product?

If you think your going to need more than one can or think it might be close or you think you might need one for touch ups in the future I suggest that you purchase more than a can. In that way your more likely to get two cans from the same batch (sometimes identified by the coding on the bottom of the can) really not a good thing to find out other cans may not match

Just a thought and something others have found helpful

Most things in the dash area are flat or darkly colored. I have also seen those straps with considerable texture in the paint.

I have the same year same trim code and on these parts there is a very low sheen, almost but not quite flat.  I can detect a slight metal flake to the paint.  No "texture" though.  These are metal trim pieces that fill the gap between the dash pad and windshield, not what I would consider a "strap."  The color is close to the dash pad, but not exact - different material, different process.  These interiors were not monotone.
