Rear quarter reflectors on 1968 coupe
« on: November 22, 2020, 02:42:42 PM »
Asking on a friend’s behalf. He has a coupe manufactured 29U = July 29th, 1968. He has no reflectors on the quarter panels, neither any embossing to fit them. As far as I know the reflectors were a federal obligation since Feb 1968 and some 1967 produced cars already had them. Does it mean any previous owner had deleted them or used incorrect quarter panel when doing the restoration? Thanks.

Yes. Look in the trunk just to make sure.

Early 68's had the depressions in the sheet metal for a reflector. Later 68's were surface mounted type . 68's had the reflectors in the rear from the beginning of production and not just from your feb 68 date. Your friends car may have had the quarters changed /repaired sometime in it's life however A late 68 build Mustang would typically have the surface mount variety .

Thats is a late 68 date code, so you would only have two small holes on each quarter to make go away.

But it does sound as if there has been some repairs

Thank you all for the replies.
That was our initial guess, that there must have been some repairs which hid the holes.
