65 Brake Master Cylinders

From looking at the unrestored picture thread I noticed a couple different kinds of master cylinders on 65’s.  One has a plug screwed in where the 65 1/2 brake light pressure switch was and others are just cast with a flat spot at that location.  Mine is a January 65 Dearborn car with the screw in plug.  Is there a good guess as to when it changed over to the one cast with a flat spot?

Consider that not all of the cars in the unrestored picture section or ones you will see still have their original master cylinders. One of the handful of items owners have often replaced over the years. Sometime not even because they were leaking, just because they were old.

Guess your referring to non- power brake or disc brake master cylinder your asking about.

I think the question is about when the fluid acctuated brake light switch mounted on the master cylinder used in 64 was changed to the brake pedal one used in 65 and on. The master cylinder had a plug in that change over, then the hole was not drilled.

Yes I am referring to non power and non disc master cylinder.  For a time, it appears that ford used the same master cylinder casting in the 65 production year as was used in the 64 1/2 production except the hole where the brake light pressure switch was mounted in 64 1/2 was plugged with a threaded bolt for 65 production.  And they were used until Ford started getting castings with no hole and I wonder when that running change may have been made.

Curious if anyone got an answer on this.  Is it acceptable to have the plug in the upper hole on a 65?

My production date was Jan 21 so just curios if mine would potentially have the plug in it instead of blanked off.

Just for clarification your asking about a standard non-disc brake master cylinder.   ???

Yes that is the style we see on the vast majority of cars shown in the Unrestored Picture Thread here on the site.

Suggest a wanted ad here and elsewhere and also check to see if you can find a provider of rebuilt master cylinders if they are still out there and check with them. Know guys that have found what they were looking for by working with a parts house and sometimes having to order some to see what comes in. Often you will need to explain what your doing and they may or may not be interested in doing it but if you explain I've found that many are ok with the search and if you explain that you will buy more than one if found its a sell for them and something out of the ordinary that makes the day a little different for them. You can often resell the two or three extras and cover the cost of the one you need or even add to the restoration fund. 

If you really get in the weeds you can even consider the date coding on the part if you want to go that far.

In the mean time you could just plug the hole and grind the plug flush. Then fill and paint.
